In October, as a part of regular school visits and check-ins, Ahmed Zain with Apache Corporation visited 39 Springboard Schools in the Minya Governate in Egypt. He met with teachers to discuss the schools’ challenges in the wake of the pandemic and reviewed hygiene protocols and safety plans to protect against COVID-19. He also learned about the students’ favorite school subjects and current projects.
One student, a fourth grader named Fatma, stood out to him. Fatma shared her dream of one day being a presenter on TV. She said that her school needed additional school supplies, pens, notebooks and tools for crafts.
On behalf of Apache, Zain delivered supplies and backpacks and encouraged Fatma to do her best in school, and that with hard work, she could achieve her dream.
“I was impressed with the girls’ academic skills and their commitment to learning something new each day,” said Zain. “Their smiles and passion for education are the reason we do this.”
Since 2004, Apache has funded the construction of 201 schools in rural areas of Egypt where educational opportunities for girls are scarce. Since the program launch, approximately 15,000 girls have learned to read and write.
The students, teachers and schools in Egypt are an integral part of Apache’s commitment to local communities.
